When my record label, David Gresham Records, and I finally decided on AMAZING as my first single, I was thrilled and excited that my music was going to go out into the world. Music isn’t only words on paper or notes in the air - It’s the artists’ soul. I put my heart and soul into AMAZING and wanted other people to hear and enjoy the music that I also really enjoy. ITunes and other online store were the obvious and first choice to put the music out & DGR dealt with that. But I wanted something more… so I decided to do the ultimate Lyric Video (in my mind).
My mom and I met up with the #aMAYzing Grant Knottenbelt (TITLECARD PRODUCTIONS) at a Mugg ‘n Bean, and asked him to create the video.
For about 2 hours we had cake, coffee, paper and pencils all over our little table.
BACKGROUND – while I was creating AMAZING, I started to create in my mind the perfect Music Video. I knew exactly which shots I wanted, where, and what I’d wear (typical Me). So going in to talk about my Lyric Video, I decided I wanted the exact same thing.
BACK TO THE STORY. My dream for my Music Video was to have a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme, where Holly (Audrey Hepburn) has parties and falls in love. I told Grant this, and he jumped at the idea. We decided that instead of people we would use balloons. A pink one to represent the girl and a blue one to represent the boy in the story.
I love cities like New York, Paris, Cape Town & London, so we added pictures of my favourite cities as the back grounds for the story.
So…. the Video…. the different colour balloons follow the story of the song, “My girls they didn’t like you” so all the balloons float away. On the line “So glad that you came back to me” the blue balloon floats in to meet the pink balloon. It’s all very cute and romantic.
For the bridge Grant felt that we needed something different to break the video. We decided to use my hands to illustrate “I’ve got nothing to hide”. So the video isn’t only my story but also has me in it.
I love how the song is so well represented by the video, & shows the fun side of the song but also the heartbreak of not being with the person you care for.
At the end of the video there is a black and white shot of a New York apartment, and all the balloons start joining the party with the boy and girl, and slowly it turns to colour. It kinda represents the other balloons starting to see the colour and see what a great guy the blue balloon is. So in the end there is just a great, big party – just like in Holly’s apartment.
